Parvaid is useful as a parvo virus preventative. Preventative dose is 4x/day with Parvaid given as soon as you know your puppy has been exposed to the parvo virus, it helps prevent majority of puppies from exhibiting any parvovirus symptoms. It is best to use Parvaid 4x/day in conjunction with Vibactra Plus 2x/day for preventative purposes.
The following items are recommended to be used in conjunction with Parvaid to assist healing parvo puppies.
- #1 - Electrolyte fluid such as pedialyte
#2 - Syringe(s) - One to administer oral doses and if the puppy is not on IV's, a second syringe or infant enema bag to administer enemas, to prevent dehydration.
#3 - An antibiotic to prevent secondary infection. We personally prefer Colloidal Silver or Vibactra Plus, since both of these natural antibiotics can kill viruses, bacteria, fungi, and single celled organisms.

If you have numerous puppies or those who have been exposed to the parvo virus, along with some that have parvo, you might want to consider purchasing one or more amber glass 1/2 oz., 1 oz., or 4 oz. dropper bottles, so you can split up some Parvaid and/or Vibactra Plus into a smaller bottle. That way you can use one bottle for preventative purposes and the other for treating active parvo infections.

If your puppy was wormed within the past 10 days, you may want to consider purchasing the Adizone to help reduce intestinal/bowel inflammation, since the chemical wormers can cause excessive inflammation and prevent recovery from the parvo virus.
Puppies who were vaccinated and/or wormed within 5 days of coming down with parvo would benefit most by giving Bentonite Clay orally and via enema to quickly draw the toxins from the vaccines and wormer out of the system. We highly recommend giving NaturVet MSM via enema every 8 hours, at double the recommended daily dose. In recently wormed or overly wormed/vaccinated cases, their intestines can literally swell shut, meaning they cannot keep any oral fluids down (some cases only 1 drop of oral fluid will send them into a vomiting fit) OR they aren't having good sized bowel movements 4 to 6 times/day OR they're having difficulty keeping both oral and enema fluids down/in. Expect a good sized bowel movement within 2 to 4 hours of dosing via enema. Note how much better the puppy feels after getting that yucky bowel movement out as well. We do NOT recommend giving the MSM orally as it is really nasty tasting (even we humans don't take MSM mixed with water it's too yucky) AND more importantly, it is more quickly absorbed via enema and does a much quicker job of alleviating inflammation when given via enema. Most cases won't need more than 2 doses before they are scarfing food and getting into normal healthy puppy trouble again. NOTE: Please make sure to immediately replace the lost bowel movement fluids to prevent dehydration.
If you see worms in your puppy's vomit or bowel movements Natural Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth orally and via enema for one dose, then give orally once/day for 30 days. Worms can prevent recovery from parvo. We often get parvo cases that have been regularly wormed and the breeders have rotated the chemical wormers beginning as early as 2 weeks of age. We are finding the worms are developing immunity to the traditional chemical wormers (pyrantel, panacur, Strongid, Nemex, etc.) just the same as bacteria have developed immunity to the traditional antibiotics. NEVER chemically worm a puppy while it has parvo, as the chemical wormer permeates the intestinal tract since they are shedding the intestinal lining and 99% of the time a chemical wormer given while they have parvo will kill the puppy quickly. Food grade diatomaceous earth is safe to give to parvo puppies and VERY effective against all intestinal worms. We've never lost a parvo puppy when using DE to address those with worm loads.
If your puppy may be affected by the heart strain of parvo, give Hawthorn & Dandelion 3 to 4 times/daily to help strengthen and support the heart. This "strain" of parvo is often caused by inappropriate treatment which leads to excessive strain on the heart. As noted in the above paragraph, IF your puppy has parvo and is NOT having at least 4 to 6 bowel movements per day, you need to give it Organic food grade diatomaceous earth orally and via enema for the first dose, then orally once/day for at least 30 days thereafter AND give one dose of 500 mg. of NaturVet MSM via enema per instructions every 8 hours. These things will alleviate the strain on the puppy's heart.
SUGGESTED USE WHEN TREATING MORE THAN ONE PET:
***When treating more than one pet with the same dropper, it is necessary to assure sterile administration without carry over from pet to pet. The best way to assure this is to use the dropper only to transfer product to an individual sterile oral syringe, using a different syringe for each pet. (This method will also reduce the chances of product contamination.) Those syringes should be sterilized after each use. Each pet should have its own syringe that is not shared with another pet.
The use of a syringe containing measured drops from the dropper will also remove the risk of the animal biting the glass dropper.***

We believe it is important to keep tract of parvo puppy temperatures. IF a "parvo" puppy does NOT have a temperature and still isn't eating or drinking on its own, it either does not have parvo OR it has recovered from parvo and is fighting another health issue. Knowing the puppy's temperature helps to know how to help it heal.
A puppy's normal temperature is 100.5 to 101.5 degrees fahrenheit. Anything above or below the normal temperature range is either a high or low grade fever. IF your puppy exhibits a low grade fever, it is best to heat it's oral and enema doses, to prevent lowering their temperature further.

CODEX FOOD CHEMICAL GRADE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH (Amorphous Silica) - If you see worms in your puppy's bowel movement or vomit, give food grade diatomaceous earth daily. If your puppy has parvo, give one dose orally and via enema (if your parvo puppy is NOT having bowel movements at least 4 to 6 times/day), then give daily for at least 30 days. Worms can prevent recovery from parvo. Chemical wormers given when a puppy has parvo, more often than not will kill the puppy as the chemical wormer permeates the intestinal tract, since parvo sheds the intestinal lining. Food grade diatomaceous earth is safe and works excellent to naturally kill the worms without hurting the puppy, allowing for quick recovery.
Many breeders start chemically worming puppies every 2 weeks beginning as early as 2 weeks of age, rotating the chemical wormers (pyrantel, panacur, Strongid, Nemex, Safeguard, etc.). Fecal tests are only 20 to 25% accurate (for people or animals) and these breeders believe their puppies have no intestinal worms. Worms (rounds, whips, hooks, tapeworms) are developing immunity to the traditional chemical wormers just the same as bacteria have developed immunity to traditional antibiotics. And we find that often, based on the parvo puppies symptoms, that they still have excessive worm loads. Often, these worms will not be seen in the puppy's vomit or diarrhea, so again, it is believed they have no worms. It's not until the breeder loses 2 or 3 parvo puppies that they start to listen to what we are telling them and usually one of the dead puppies will either vomit worms or have some in their bowel movement. Food grade DE will safely and nearly immediately stop the worms for eating the puppy, sucking their blood, and literally the life out of the puppy. If worms is the issue that is preventing recovery from parvo, within 4 hours of oral and enema dosing of food grade DE, these puppies have a good bowel movement and within 4 to 8 hours after that, they are eating on their own.
Keep in mind, that these chemical wormers are poisons that are being put into the body of young puppies. The worms that the wormers actually may kill, die inside the puppy's body. As they die, they emit toxins - viruses, bacteria, ammonia, and these dead bodies "bloat" as dead bodies do. This bloating can clog the bowels which makes it difficult for the puppy to have bowel movements. Regular bowel movements are essential to swift recovery from parvo. Since parvo sheds the intestinal lining, even though the puppy is not eating, they should still be having regular bowel movements. You WANT those bowel movements OUT of the body. Keeping the virus, intestinal lining, and worms inside the body causes greater toxicity. In cases where the puppies are not having regular bowel movements, they can strain to try and have a bowel movement and die from over exertion on the heart.
IF your puppy has never been wormed, obtaining the food grade diatomaceous earth is still recommended, #1 because if they aren't having 4 to 6 good sized bowel movements (not tiny dime or silver dollar sized plops) daily, the DE should be given to help address this issue. Puppies are born with roundworms and hookworms, regardless of how clean the mother may have been before whelping, the stress of whelping causes worm eggs to hatch. So unwormed puppies will have worms and feeding DE to the puppy will not harm them and only help hasten their recovery.
IF your puppy vomits and has trouble keeping the oral doses down, excessive worm loads is one of the reasons this can occur.
One of the biggest reasons we started charging parvo/parvo-ish consultations a few years ago is because we found that when giving free advice, at all hours of the day and night, often times the people didn't listen. It was okay for them to call us at 1am, 3am, 5am, Christmas Day, and all other hours and holidays 365 days/year, but when they weren't listening to what we were telling them, until they lost a few puppies and realized that what we were telling them was right...and then they would say, "Gee, that was a good learning experience"...really rubbed me the wrong way. A puppy, two, or three died to give them that learning experience, because they wanted to call us at 3am and chat for a couple of hours and not listen to what we were telling them. Just because we are on the other end of the phone while they are treating puppies and some are bringing us partial litters to treat because they had too many to be able to treat them all hourly themselves, doesn't mean that we don't care whether they live or die. And especially so, for them to die needlessly when people chose not to listen, yet felt it okay to keep us up 24 hours/day to talk to them.
We have been through it all whether through our clients or personally caring for puppies on site here. They can ALL survive parvo and/or parvo-ish conditions - PERIOD. There are no "ifs - ands - or buts". Now, regardless of who calls us - breeder, vet, rescue, shelter, sanctuary, or an individual person with a wonderful puppy that they love - they pay for our consultation time and not ONE single puppy has ever been lost, because the people ARE paying attention and doing what we tell them needs to be done. So please, buy some food grade diatomaceous earth for your puppy - whether obtaining Parvaid and Vibactra Plus for preventative or treatment purposes.
